Sheikh Ahmed Tidjani

May ALLAH be satisfied with him

Beloved and approved companion, Sidi Hajj Makki Ibn Abdallah (may ALLAH be pleased with him) was among the deserving of Seyyidina Ahmed Tidjani’s beloved ones  (may ALLAH sanctify his precious secret).

It is said that once, his cousin Sidi Hajj Ahmed wanted to extend the water pipe from his house which was next to Qarawiyine Mosque to the noble Zawiya to provide water. However, he met with opposition from detractors whose water pipes also passed this way. Having recorded with notables of pure judgement that this extension would not harm anybody, Sidi Hajj Makki Ibn Abdallah (may ALLAH be pleased with him) decided to accompany his cousin to the olive valley of Meknes. They submitted their request to the prince of that time who gave his authorization to extend the water pipe as far as the noble Zawiya despite the dissatisfaction of their adversaries. When they returned to Fes, they spent a considerable sum so that the water from their house could supply the noble Zawiya within one single night of work. The brothers were not aware of this, and when they arrived to pray at dawn, they saw with great joy that the water was running.

Sidi Hajj Makki Ibn Abdallah (may ALLAH be pleased with him) and his cousin were often among those who accompanied Seyyidina Ahmed Tidjani (may ALLAH sanctify his precious secret) when he went to the river Sebu, and Seyyidina Ahmed Tidjani (may ALLAH sanctify his precious secret) loved them greatly. One day, as usual, they went with him to the river accompanied by some of the brothers. Then Sidi El Arbi, the brother of Sidi Ahmed (the cousin of Sidi Hajj Makki) on his way to work not far from the place where Seyyidina Ahmed Tidjani (may ALLAH sanctify his precious secret) were staying, came to visit him to benefit from his blessings. He loved Seyyidina Ahmed Tidjani (may ALLAH sanctify his precious secret) deeply although he had not taken the Tariqa.

When he approached Seyyidina Ahmed Tidjani (may ALLAH sanctify his precious secret), the latter raised his hands to evoke the Fatiha and all the brothers present did the same. Seyyidina Ahmed Tidjani (may ALLAH sanctify his precious secret) declared (or words to that effect): “O companions! Everything that is bestowed upon you is equally bestowed upon Sidi El Arbi even if he has not taken the Tariqa; this is due to his love for us, the love of his brother Sidi Ahmed and that of his cousin (Sidi Makki), and ALLAH is the One who grants [this/everything)].”
