Sheikh Ahmed Tidjani

May ALLAH be satisfied with him

Abu Abdallah Sidi Muhammad Ibn Ahmed Kensussi Qurachy El Hachimy El Djafary was among the greatest jurist and scholar of his time. This master was among those whose Spiritual Opening was recognized in the Tariqa Muhammadiya.

His merit is well known both among the elite and the commoners and he has been described as a holder of utter sainthood. He was devoted to guiding beings on the path of righteousness with abnegation and effort, headless of the critics for the sake of ALLAH. Sidi Muhammad Kensoussi (may ALLAH be pleased with him) was of the most radiant signs of ALLAH. Of all beings he was supported by coveted spiritual degrees, evident prodigies, abundant knowledge and secrets, wisdom, spiritual openings, subtleties, realities and extraordinary events.

He completely mastered all fields of knowledge including exegesis, hadith, jurisprudence, (dogma) doctrine, legal foundations, Sufism, etc…

In 1229 of the Hegira, in search of knowledge, Sidi Muhammad Kensoussi (may ALLAH be pleased with him) came to settle in Fes. He often used to come to see his friend at the madrassa. His home was quite close to the Zawiya of Seyyidina Ahmed Tidjani (may ALLAH sanctify his precious secret). Because of this, he often walked past the door of the Zawiya, and saw Seyyidina Ahmed Tidjani (may ALLAH sanctify his precious secret) with some of his companions. Sidi Muhammad El Ghali (may ALLAH be pleased with him) was among them and every time he saw Sidi Muhammad Kensoussi (may ALLAH be pleased with him), he would stare at him passing by until he was out of sight. Seyyidina Ahmed Tidjani (may ALLAH sanctify his precious secret) noticed this and said to him: “O Mulay, I often see you looking at that young Berber, you do not stop looking at him as he walks past the door of the Zawiya. If you wish, we will give him to you.” Several years later, the words of Seyyidina Ahmed Tidjani (may ALLAH sanctify his precious secret) were realized by ALLAH because it is from the hands of Sidi Muhammad El Ghali (may ALLAH be pleased with him) that Sidi Muhammad Kensoussi (may ALLAH be pleased with him) took the Tariqa.

He was loved by Seyyidina Ahmed Tidjani (may ALLAH sanctify his precious secret) because his love was sincere and his intention was pure. He was an enlightened jurist and he used to talk about the elevated aspiration and spiritual unveiling of Seyyidina Ahmed Tidjani (may ALLAH sanctify his precious secret).

On this subject, he recounted the following: “In the year 1218 of the Hegira, accompanied by a dignitary, I went to visit Seyyidina Ahmed Tidjani (may ALLAH sanctify his precious secret). When we met him, I offered him one dirham and my companion offered him forty riyals. Seyyidina Ahmed Tidjani (may ALLAH sanctify his precious secret) took the dirham from his hand and turned the coin over and over again, looking at it closely. Then he closed his fist and took the dirham with him back to his apartments. However, he left the forty riyals and said to the person who had offered them: “Take back your money.” The person replied: “But Master I offered them to you for the visit.” But Seyyidina Ahmed Tidjani (may ALLAH sanctify his precious secret) said to him through spiritual unveiling: “Take it back because I do not sell children.” In fact, this person was secretly hoping that, through the blessings of this visit, ALLAH would grant him children. Seyyidina Ahmed Tidjani (may ALLAH sanctify his precious secret) did not accept one single penny of his money. This was the way he always behaved with those who came to visit him with the aim of obtaining worldly advantages. In these cases, he never accepted their gifts.

He was among the elite of the elite among the companions of Seyyidina Ahmed Tidjani (may ALLAH sanctify his precious secret).

He was a meritorious Imam and a scholar of pure deeds. As a teacher and lecturer, he used to deliver his sermons beside the tomb of Sidi Mulay Idriss (may ALLAH be pleased with him). Amongst others, he mastered the knowledge of the prophetic hadiths. Sometimes, during his lessons, he would faint; especially when he was teaching the Sahih of Imam Bukhari (may ALLAH be pleased with him). Some people asked him about the reason for these fainting spells and he replied that sometimes, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) attended his teachings and that when he saw him, he fainted.

He was among those who used to recite religious chants in the presence of Seyyidina Ahmed Tidjani (may ALLAH sanctify his precious secret) during his lifetime and he had an imposing voice. Among the many prodigies experienced by Sidi Muhammad ibn Jalul (may ALLAH be pleased with him) in terms of immediate help from ALLAH (The Glorified, The Exalted) obtained through the blessed intercession of Seyyidina Ahmed Tidjani (may ALLAH sanctify his precious secret), it is said that, when he set out on pilgrimage to Mecca, he travelled with a group of Moroccans. While the group was resting, Sidi Muhammad ibn Jalul (may ALLAH be pleased with him) dozed off and woke only after the departure of the caravan. He sat down and spent the night there.
