Life of Hajj AbdulWahab ibn Ahmar

Hajj AbdulWahab ibn Ahmar (May ALLAH be satisfied with him)

Sidi Hajj Abdelwahhab ben Tawadi (May Allah be pleased with him) is the Muqadem on whom sainthood was bestowed; he who holds the blessing that was of a great avail to countless beings; he is the one who refrained from the comfort of sleeping ever since he was separated from Seidina Ahmed Tidjani (May Allah sanctify his precious secret) up to his death. He was known as Ibn El Ahmar.
Sidi Hajj Abdelwahhab (May Allah be pleased with him) was a master who belonged to the elite of the companions of Seïdina Ahmed Tidjani (May Allah be pleased with him), those who would accompany him whether when in residence or on a trip until they attained the peak of their desires.
He was part of the ten companions whom Prophet Muhammad (May Allah's Peace and Grace be upon Him) granted the Great Opening (Fathu-l-Akbar) as mentioned by Seïdina Ahmed Tidjani (May Allah be pleased with him).
Once, he was asked about these companions after an important mission he had accomplished: "Were they rewarded for that task?", and Seïdina Ahmed Tidjani (May Allah be pleased with him) answered: "Prophet Muhammad (May Allah's Peace and Grace be upon Him) has granted him the Great Opening."
Sidi Hajj Abdelwahhab (May Allah be pleased with him) used to be the cabinet that kept the secrets of both Seïdina Ahmed Tidjani (May Allah be pleased with him) and Khalif Sidi Hajj Ali Harazim Berada (May Allah be pleased with him). What is more, Seïdina Ahmed Tidjani (May Allah be pleased with him) asked him to travel with the great Khalif when the latter headed for the Hijez in Arabia .
Thus, he was at his side all the time until he passed around 1218 H in Badr where Prophet Muhammad (May Allah's Peace and Grace be upon Him) was victorious. Sidi Hajj Abdelwahhab (May Allah be pleased with him) buried him there and headed for Fez after he obtained his permission.
His heart was pure, and practising the religion by going the right path, he hastened to accomplish good deeds, thereby reaching the best of his goals. He wanted the best for each and every one because of his clean heart, one that was deplete of the disease of passion.
It is reported that he said:
"The Tariqa Tijaniya rests on three pillars that represent both its kernel and secret:
1- Perpetual love for the family of Prophet Muhammad (May Allah's Peace and Grace be upon Him);
2- Performing one's canonical prayer at the appointed time;
3) And relentless prayers upon Prophet Muhammad (May Allah's Peace and Grace be upon Him)"
One thing he highly recommended was the Salat Tasbih, about which he would say: "My wish is that all the companions accomplish this prayer."
The special gifts that Seïdina Ahmed Tidjani (May Allah be pleased with him) bestowed on him made him special. Among these gifts is the continuous dream he had of Prophet Muhammad (May Allah's Peace and Grace be upon Him). He once told some of his closest people who had asked him about his dreams: "Once, I saw the Prophet Muhammad (May Allah's Peace and Grace be upon Him) along with Abu Bakr and Omar (May Allah be pleased with them), and Sidi Hajj Abdelwahhab (May Allah be pleased with him) joined them. Prophet Muhammad (May Allah's Peace and Grace be upon Him) turned to his two companions and thus asked them (May Allah be pleased with them): 'Write his name on your list of friends,' looking at Sidi Hajj Abdelwahhab (May Allah be pleased with him).

In this vision there is an allusion to what Seidina Ahmed Tidjani (May Allah sanctify his secrets) one said: "The Master of existence (May Allah's grace and peace be upon him) confided to me this: 'Your companions are my companions, and your disciples are my disciples.'" Sidi Hajj Abdelwahhab (May Allah be pleased with him) would very often come and sit down by the noble Mihrab of the blessed Zaouiya to perform his Dhikr when Seidina Ahmed Tidjani (May Allah sanctify his precious secrets) passed away.

One day, when he was performing his Dhikr as usual he saw Seidina Ahmed Tidjani (May Allah sanctify his precious secret) who emerged from his tomb and walked towards him. When Seidina (May Allah sanctify his precious secret) reached him he ordered him to get up, which he did. After walking a couple of meters, the Prophet Muhammad (May Allah's grace and peace be upon him) appeared to them. That's when Seidina (May Allah sanctify his precious secret) said to him: "Here are you in the company of the Prophet." Sidi Hajj Abdelwahhab (May Allah be pleased with him) kissed the hand of the Prophet (May Allah's grace and peace be upon him) all in tears. Then, he came back from his moment of absence while finding himself sitting in his house.

Among the prodigies that show his control over things (Tasrif) there is what follows.
One day Sidi Hajj Abdelwahhab (May Allah be pleased with him) was accompanying a caravan carrying the goods of Seidina Ahmed Tidjani (May Allah sanctify his precious secret), some robbers appeared and took all the goods. In reaction to what happened Sidi Hajj Abdelwahhab (May Allah be pleased with him) warned the thieves saying this: "O you people! Fear Allah. This caravan is the property of Allah's Wali Seidina Ahmed Tidjani (May Allah sanctify his precious secret)." To which they answered: "So what? We do not even know him. We will not renounce even if this implies your death or ours. And they carried their business. All of a sudden, they felt some pressure weighing down on them and smothering. They were so powerless that they could not move, as if the earth was absorbing them. Powerless, the thieves started to beckon: "O you people, come and collect your goods, free us from this mishap." Sidi Hajj Abdelwahhab ben Tawadi (May Allah be pleased with him) responded: "We warned you that these goods were the property of Sidi Ahmed Tidjani and now, you must ask for Allah's forgiveness. Or else, you will be doomed." They did so, and gave back everything they took, and ultimately joined the caravan leading to the place Seidina (May Allah be pleased with him) was staying. They embraced the Tariqa Mohamediya fom which they greatly benefited. They went back where they came from, all repented and steadfastly held on to the rope of guidance even though their tribe was known to be the center of chaos. The spiritual force of Seidina Ahmed Tidjani (May Allah sanctify his precious secret) as well as the belief of Sidi Hajj Abdelwahhab (May Allah be pleased with him) made this possible. When he passed away, the celebrated Fqih Mohamed Kensoussi (May Allah be pleased with him) declared that "the secrets of the Tariqa died when he died."
